PRESS: Zvezda shipbuilding complex may start using Russian steel

MOSCOW, Feb 18 (PRIME) -- The Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center Zvezda may begin using Russia-made steel instead of foreign with Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) and Amurstal among the supplier options, Vedomosti business daily reported on Monday citing participants of a tailored meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak.

The meeting took place in late 2018, the sources said.

Currently, steel for Zvezda is delivered from South Korea. In 2016, Rosneft and Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC) established a joint venture to develop metallurgical facilities for the shipbuilding complex, but the project has been abandoned by now.

A representative of the Industry and Trade Ministry told Vedomosti that the authority is not considering options of domestic steel supplies to the complex.
